Experiences with river basin management plans
The increasing demand by citizens and environmental organizations for cleaner waters has lead to the establishment of the European Water Framework Directive in 2000. How the different member states implement the WFD, however, is not fixed. How are the elements of the WFD made operational in our neighbouring countries? What makes the difference with the Flemish approach and how do we come to a most optimal water management across borders?
- dr. Ann Crabbé (UA) makes a comparative analysis of the Flemish versus the Dutch implementation of the European Water Framework Directive - mrs. Ilke Dieltjens (VMM) talks about the experiences with the formulation of the first river basin management plans in a Flemish context - mrs. Sofie Bracke (Leefmilieu Brussel) highlights the upcoming water management plan of Brussels, including some specific action points to make Brussels a resilient city - mr. Olivier Prévost (DREAL) presents the French approach of the river basin management plans - mr. Diederik van der Molen (Ministerie Infrastructuur en Milieu, DG Water) highlights the strategy the Netherlands follow for the implementation of the WFD - mr. Jean Pauwels (Internationale Scheldecommissie) makes a comparison between the approaches followed by the different members of the International Scheldt Commission
