VITO's BAT Knowledge Centre has started a new BAT study for the construction of subterranean manure storage in Dutch version.
This study will focus on the regulations for the construction of new subterranean manure storages and preventive measures for the prevention/reduction of emissions through leakage from existing and new subterranean manure storages on livestock farms and manure processing facilities. The aspects of material usage, construction regulations, maintenance, safety, and enforceability of the construction regulations, as well as environmental conditions aimed at preventing soil and groundwater contamination from subterranean manure storage, will be examined.
A guidance committee will be set up for this study with various representatives from, among others, the Flemish Government and the livestock sector.
